Using an EcoFlow as a UPS for Wi-Fi and a PC During Brownouts, With Solar Top-Up

To keep your Wi-Fi and PC running through brownouts, plug them into an EcoFlow model with a fast switchover. EcoFlow lists 10 ms for the RIVER 3 (UPS), DELTA 3, DELTA 3 1000 Air (UPS) and DELTA Pro 3. For a router and modem, the RIVER 3 (UPS) is enough. If you also need a desktop PC, look at the DELTA 3 1000 Air (UPS). Add a solar panel so it can recharge during long outages.

How the switchover works

Plug the power station into the wall and your devices into the power station. When the grid fails, it switches your devices to its battery. The switchover time is the short gap while that happens.

EPS vs UPS. Both switch over by themselves. EcoFlow describes the 30 ms switching on the RIVER 2 and DELTA Pro as “EPS”, not a dedicated UPS rating. Models like the RIVER 3 (UPS) and DELTA 3 1000 Air (UPS) are sold on their 10 ms switchover. For a desktop PC, a 10 ms model gives you the best chance.

Test before you trust it. No switchover figure guarantees that a particular PC won’t restart. Save your work, close everything, then switch off the wall outlet feeding the power station. If the PC stays on, you’re set. Test the router and modem the same way.

How long will it run?

Add up the watts of what you plug in. Check the labels on the router, modem (ONU), PC and monitor adapters.

Example only: say your router and modem draw 20W together.

• Example assumption: about 85% of the battery is usable after conversion losses.
• RIVER 3 (UPS): 245Wh x 0.85 ÷ 20W ≈ 10 hours.
• DELTA 3 1000 Air (UPS): 960Wh x 0.85 ÷ 20W ≈ 40 hours.

Solar top-up for long brownouts

During a brownout, the wall power is gone, so solar is your only way to recharge. Verified EcoFlow panel setups:

Two notes. The 160W and 220W panels draw more current than the RIVER 3 (UPS) input’s 8A limit, so we don’t recommend them there. And EcoFlow has no separate manual for the DELTA 3 1000 Air (UPS); we used the 1000 Air manual (12-60V, 15A), which is very likely but not separately confirmed for the UPS version.

EcoFlow says the 45W panel can fully charge a RIVER 3 in 6.3 hours of peak sun. That’s a slow top-up, best for keeping Wi-Fi going rather than refilling a big battery.

After grid power returns, check your station’s manual for how it handles wall and solar charging together.

Safety

These are plug-in setups you can do yourself following the manual: power station into a wall outlet, devices into the power station, portable panels outside. Don’t connect a power station into your house wiring or breaker panel without a licensed electrician and an LGU electrical permit.

Bottom line

For Wi-Fi alone, a RIVER 3 (UPS) with a 45W panel does the job. For a PC, choose a 10 ms model with more battery, such as the DELTA 3 1000 Air (UPS), and test it before you rely on it. For a desktop PC, prefer a 10 ms model over a 30 ms EPS one.
