Can Solar Keep a Refrigerator Running Through a Brownout with an EcoFlow?
Can an EcoFlow power station and solar keep your ref running through a brownout? Size it from the fridge's label kWh, then the station's Wh, then the solar watts.
Checked against the sources listed below. How we research.
Key takeaways
- Yes, if the station and solar are sized from your fridge's actual use. Start with the monthly kWh on its DOE energy label, divide by 30 to get kWh per day.
- Station size: daily Wh ÷ 0.85 (our runtime calculator's assumption for AC devices) gives the rated Wh needed for one full day without sun.
- Solar size: daily Wh ÷ peak sun hours, plus a generous margin for cloud and losses. With an example assumption of 4 peak sun hours, a 1,000 Wh/day fridge needs well over 250W of usable solar.
- For a fridge using about 1 kWh a day, look at DELTA 3 1500 (1,536 Wh), DELTA 3 Max (2,048 Wh) or bigger. Each has verified panel setups of 400–500W.
- Check the station's AC output and surge against the fridge's rating, since compressors draw extra at start-up.

Yes, solar can keep a refrigerator running through a brownout, if you size the system from your fridge’s real energy use. The method is three steps: fridge Wh per day (from its energy label) → station capacity → solar watts. For a typical fridge using about 1 kWh a day, that points to a station such as the EcoFlow DELTA 3 Max or DELTA 3 1500, with 400–500W of verified panels.
Step 1: Your fridge’s Wh per day
Look for the monthly kWh on the fridge’s DOE energy label. The Philippine label’s figure is the measured daily use × 30, so:
Wh per day = label kWh per month ÷ 30 × 1,000
Example only: a label showing 30 kWh/month → 1 kWh/day → 1,000 Wh per day. Your fridge will differ, so use its own label. Don’t multiply the sticker watts by 24 hours: the compressor cycles on and off, so that badly overstates use. Our refrigerator electricity guide explains the label in detail.
Step 2: Station capacity
Part of the stored energy is lost converting battery power to AC. Our EcoFlow runtime calculator assumes about 85% reaches AC devices. So for one full day without any sun:
Rated Wh needed ≈ fridge Wh per day ÷ 0.85
Example: 1,000 ÷ 0.85 ≈ 1,176 Wh. Stations at or above that, from EcoFlow’s published figures:
| Station | Capacity | AC output (surge) | Estimated fridge runtime with no sun (1,000 Wh/day example) |
|---|---|---|---|
| DELTA 3 1500 (Shopee · Lazada) | 1,536 Wh | 1,800W (3,600W) | about 31 hours |
| DELTA 3 Max (Shopee · Lazada) | 2,048 Wh | 2,400W (4,800W) | about 42 hours |
| DELTA Pro 3 (Shopee · Lazada) | 4,096 Wh | 4,000W (8,000W) | about 84 hours |
Runtime estimate = capacity × 0.85 ÷ (1,000 ÷ 24). The 1,024 Wh DELTA 3 would cover about 21 hours, which is fine for an overnight brownout but not a full day.
Also check power. Compare the fridge’s rated watts and its start-up surge with the station’s AC output and surge figures. The PH DELTA 3 (1500) is labelled “EU”, so check its socket type fits your fridge plug.
Step 3: Solar watts to refill each day
To keep up through a long outage, the solar you collect in a day must at least replace what the fridge used:
Usable solar watts ≥ daily Wh ÷ peak sun hours, then add a generous margin for cloud, angle and charging losses.
With an example assumption of 4 peak sun hours: 1,000 ÷ 4 = 250W as the bare minimum, before losses. That’s why 400–500W setups make sense. Verified combinations (all within EcoFlow’s input limits):
| Station | Panel setup | Usable solar |
|---|---|---|
| DELTA 3 1500 | 4 × EcoFlow 125W Bifacial in parallel (daisy-chained with their own leads) | 500W |
| DELTA 3 1500 | 1 × EcoFlow 400W Lightweight (built-in XT60, no adapter) | 400W |
| DELTA 3 Max | 2 × EcoFlow 220W in series (MC4 leads joined, included MC4-to-XT60i cable) | 440W |
| DELTA 3 Max | 3 × 125W Bifacial in parallel | 375W |
| DELTA Pro 3 (Low-PV input) | 1 × 400W Lightweight | 400W |
On the DELTA 3 Max, four 125W panels (500W) and one 400W Lightweight are also within its 13A limit on STC current, but their bifacial back-side current would exceed 13A. That’s why the table lists the 220W series and three-panel options.
Plug-and-play portable panels can be set up by the owner following the manual. Anything wired to the house, a breaker panel, the roof or the grid needs a licensed electrician or PEE and an LGU electrical permit.
Tips to stretch it further
- Keep the fridge door shut during the brownout.
- Run only the fridge and essentials from the station during long outages.
- Charge the station to full from the wall whenever power returns.

Bottom line
Read the fridge’s label kWh, convert it to Wh per day, divide by 0.85 for the station size and by your sun hours (plus margin) for the solar watts. For about 1 kWh a day, a DELTA 3 1500 or DELTA 3 Max with 400–500W of verified panels can carry the ref through long brownouts.
