How Many Solar Panels Does My EcoFlow Power Station Need? A Step-by-Step Method

Work out how many solar panels your EcoFlow needs: daily Wh, then usable solar watts, then a panel count that fits the port limits. Worked RIVER and DELTA examples.

Checked against the sources listed below. How we research.

Key takeaways

  • Step 1: add up the watt-hours (Wh) you use per day. Step 2: divide by an assumed number of peak sun hours to get the solar watts you need. Step 3: pick a panel count that the station's solar port actually accepts.
  • The port caps everything. RIVER 2 and RIVER 3 accept 110W, RIVER 2 Max/Pro and RIVER 3 Plus accept 220W, and each DELTA 3 port accepts 500W. Extra panels beyond that add nothing.
  • Example: a RIVER 3 Plus needs at most one 220W EcoFlow panel, or two 160W panels in series (220W usable).
  • Example: a DELTA 3 Plus can take two 400W Lightweight panels, one per port (800W), or four 220W panels, two in series per port (880W).
  • Real output is lower than rated, so size with headroom, and treat every charge-time figure here as a best case.

To work out how many solar panels your EcoFlow needs, follow three steps:

  1. Add up the watt-hours (Wh) you use per day.
  2. Divide by an assumed number of peak sun hours to get the solar watts you need.
  3. Choose a panel count that your station’s solar port actually accepts.

Step 3 usually decides the answer. A RIVER 3 Plus can never use more than 220W of solar, however many panels you buy.

Step 1: Your daily watt-hours

For each appliance, multiply its watts by the hours you run it, then add the results together. A fan, Wi-Fi router, LED lights and phone charging during a brownout is a typical list. The power station runtime calculator and our guide to calculating power station runtime help with the sums. If you just want to refill the battery each day, use its capacity. A DELTA 3 is 1,024Wh, for example.

Step 2: Solar watts needed

Solar watts needed ≈ daily Wh ÷ peak sun hours

We use 4 peak sun hours below as an example assumption, not a measured figure for your area. Panels also give less than their rating in real conditions (see why panels give less than rated watts), so treat the result as a minimum and add headroom.

Step 3: Fit it to the port

Every EcoFlow solar input has a maximum voltage, current and wattage. The combination of panels must stay inside all three:

Station Solar input per port Ports
RIVER 2, RIVER 3, RIVER 3 UPS 11–30V, 8A, 110W 1
RIVER 2 Max, RIVER 2 Pro 11–50V, 13A, 220W 1
RIVER 3 Plus, RIVER 3 Max, RIVER 3 Max Plus 11–55V, 13A, 220W 1
DELTA 3, 3 Classic, 3 1500 11–60V, 15A, 500W 1
DELTA 3 Plus, DELTA 3 2000 Air 500W each, 1,000W total 2
DELTA Pro 3 High-PV 30–150V, 15A, 1,600W; Low-PV 11–60V, 20A, 1,000W 2 (2,600W total)

Once you reach the port’s watt limit, stop adding panels.

Worked examples

These use only combinations that pass our compatibility check (Voc at least 5% under the port maximum, Isc within the current limit).

A. RIVER 3 Plus (286Wh), using 250Wh a day

  • 250 ÷ 4 ≈ 63W minimum.
  • Options: 1 × EcoFlow 160W (160W), 1 × EcoFlow 220W (220W, which fills the port), or 2 × 160W in series (220W usable).
  • Answer: 1 panel. A 220W panel gives the most headroom. More panels can’t help.

B. RIVER 3 (245Wh), refilling it daily

  • 245 ÷ 4 ≈ 61W minimum. The port allows up to 110W.
  • Option: 2 × EcoFlow 60W in parallel (7A worst case, 110W usable). Don’t use series, because two in series is over 30V. A single EcoFlow 45W is below the minimum.
  • Answer: 2 × 60W in parallel. That needs an EcoFlow Solar Parallel Connection Cable, sold separately.

C. DELTA 3 (1,024Wh), refilling it daily

  • 1,024 ÷ 4 ≈ 256W minimum. The port allows 500W.
  • Options: 4 × 125W bifacial in parallel (500W), 2 × 220W in series (440W), or 1 × 400W Lightweight (400W, which EcoFlow recommends for the DELTA 3).
  • Answer: 1 × 400W, 2 × 220W, or 4 × 125W. All give healthy headroom.

D. DELTA 3 Plus (1,024Wh), for fast top-ups between brownouts

  • Two 500W ports. Options: 2 × 400W Lightweight, one per port (800W, which EcoFlow recommends), or 4 × 220W, two in series per port (880W).

E. DELTA Pro 3 (4,096Wh)

  • 4,096 ÷ 4 ≈ 1,024W minimum.
  • Option: 6 × 220W in series on High-PV (1,320W) plus 2 × 220W in series on Low-PV (440W), for 1,760W. That is 8 panels within the 2,600W total. A single 220W panel cannot go on the High-PV port alone, because its voltage is too low.

Quick estimate of charge time

Hours ≈ battery Wh ÷ usable solar W. Example C with 500W: 1,024 ÷ 500 ≈ 2 hours of full output. EcoFlow PH quotes “as fast as 2–3 hours” for that 500W set. On cloudy days it will take longer.

Setup and safety

Portable panels and power stations are plug-and-play, so you can set them up yourself by following the manuals. Anything wired into your house, breaker panel or roof needs a licensed electrician and an LGU electrical permit. For grid-tied rooftop solar, see net metering.

What to buy

Bottom line

Start from your daily Wh, divide by an assumed number of sun hours, then let your station’s solar port set the ceiling. For most RIVER owners that means one or two panels. For a DELTA 3 port, plan for 400–500W.

Frequently asked questions

How many solar panels do I need to charge an EcoFlow DELTA 3?
The DELTA 3's single solar port accepts up to 500W. With EcoFlow panels, that is 4 × 125W bifacial in parallel (500W), 2 × 220W in series (440W), or 1 × 400W Lightweight (400W). EcoFlow PH says a 500W set of 125W panels can fully charge a DELTA 3 in as fast as 2–3 hours.
Can I add more panels than my EcoFlow's solar maximum?
Extra watts above the port's maximum aren't used, and more panels also mean more voltage (series) or more current (parallel), which can push you over the port's limits. Stay within the combinations listed for your station.
What peak sun hours should I use for the Philippines?
We use 4 hours only as an example assumption for planning. Your real figure depends on your location, season and weather. Rainy-season days can give much less, so add headroom.
Is the home rooftop guide the same as this?
No. Our guide on how many solar panels you need covers rooftop systems for a whole home. This one is for portable EcoFlow power stations, where the station's solar input limit decides the panel count.
