How to Charge an EcoFlow Power Station with Solar Panels, Step by Step

How to charge an EcoFlow power station with solar panels: check the input limits, use the right cable for each panel, wire series or parallel, and place panels well.

Key takeaways

  • EcoFlow portable panels plug straight into the station's solar input (XT60i on RIVER 2, RIVER 3 and DELTA 3 models). No separate charge controller is used.
  • Before buying, check three station limits: voltage range, maximum current and maximum watts. Example: RIVER 3 is 11-30V, 8A, 110W; RIVER 3 Plus is 11-55V, 13A, 220W.
  • Each EcoFlow panel uses a different cable: 45W DC5521-to-XT60i, 60W/160W/220W MC4-to-XT60i, 125W XT60W-to-XT60i (all included); 400W Lightweight has a built-in XT60.
  • Series adds voltage, parallel adds current. EcoFlow's manuals say series is generally recommended for portable power stations.
  • The EcoFlow 400W rigid panels come with no cable; buy EcoFlow's Solar to XT60i Charging Cable separately.

To charge an EcoFlow power station with solar, check that the panel fits the station’s solar input limits, connect the panel’s cable (usually to an XT60i port), and set the panel in full, unshaded sun. EcoFlow portable panels are plug-and-play: no charge controller, no tools, and no electrician needed for a portable setup.

Step 1: Know your station’s three solar limits

Every EcoFlow station’s manual lists a voltage range, a maximum current and a maximum wattage for its solar input. The panel (or string of panels) must stay inside the first two. The third is just the most the station will take.

Station family Voltage range Max current Max solar watts
RIVER 2, RIVER 3, RIVER 3 UPS 11-30V 8A 110W
RIVER 2 Max, RIVER 2 Pro 11-50V 13A 220W
RIVER 3 Plus, RIVER 3 Max, RIVER 3 Max Plus 11-55V 13A 220W
DELTA 3 11-60V 15A 500W

The manuals warn to keep the panel’s voltage under the top figure “to avoid product damage”. On a panel label, look for Voc (open-circuit voltage) and Isc (short-circuit current). Those are the numbers to compare.

About MPPT: EcoFlow describes the DELTA 3 and DELTA 3 Plus solar inputs as MPPT. For other models, look for “MPPT” on the spec sheet. Either way, the station handles charging itself; you only need to respect the limits above.

Step 2: Use the right cable for your panel

EcoFlow panel Panel connector Cable to the station In the box?
45W (Type-C) DC5521 (plus 15W USB-C for gadgets) DC5521-to-XT60i, 1.5 m Yes
60W Solar (MC4-type) Solar-to-XT60i Yes
125W bifacial Waterproof XT60W XT60W-to-XT60i extension Yes
160W / 220W single-face (NextGen) MC4 MC4-to-XT60i, 2.5 m Yes
400W Lightweight Built-in XT60 cable None needed —
400W rigid (2-pack) MC4-type EcoFlow Solar to XT60i Charging Cable No, buy separately

Some stations, like the RIVER 3, don’t include a solar cable, so the cable that comes with the panel is the one you use. EcoFlow PH says its Lightweight panels plug into XT60/XT60i ports directly, and that no extension cable works with them.

Step 3: Series or parallel (only if you use two or more panels)

  • Series (positive of one panel to negative of the next): voltages add, current stays the same. EcoFlow’s portable-panel manuals say series is generally recommended for portable power stations.
  • Parallel (positives together, negatives together): currents add, voltage stays the same. MC4 panels need EcoFlow’s Solar Parallel Connection Cable. The 125W bifacial panels are the exception: EcoFlow designed them for parallel, and they daisy-chain through their own leads.

Example: two NextGen 160W panels in series total about 42.6V and 9.1A. That is fine on a RIVER 2 Max (50V, 13A) but is well over the 30V limit of a RIVER 3, so never do it there. Our per-model guides list every verified combination, such as RIVER 3 and RIVER 2 Max.

Step 4: Place the panel for Philippine sun

  1. Full, direct sun on the whole panel. Shade on even part of it cuts output.
  2. Tilt it toward the sun using its kickstand, and turn it every few hours if you can.
  3. Keep the station in the shade, dry and ventilated. Only the panel belongs in the sun.
  4. Pack folding panels away before heavy rain or typhoon winds.

Step 5: Connect and check

  1. Connect panels together first (series or parallel), if using more than one.
  2. Plug the panel cable into the station’s solar input.
  3. Watch the station’s screen for incoming solar watts. A reading well below the panel rating is normal in haze or low sun.

Plug-and-play portable panels can be set up by the owner following the manual. Anything wired to the house, a breaker panel or the roof needs a licensed electrician (PEE) and an LGU electrical permit, and exporting to the grid needs your electric company’s net-metering process.

Bottom line

Match the panel’s Voc and Isc to your station’s limits, use the cable made for that panel, and give the panel clear sun. Then see how long solar charging takes.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a charge controller to connect a solar panel to an EcoFlow?
No. EcoFlow's manuals connect the panel straight to the station's solar input with the right cable. The station manages the charging, as long as the panel stays inside the input's voltage and current limits.
Can I plug a non-EcoFlow solar panel into my EcoFlow?
It can work if the panel's open-circuit voltage (Voc) and short-circuit current (Isc) are inside your station's solar input limits and you use a suitable MC4-to-XT60i cable. We only verify EcoFlow panels, so check the panel label and the station manual yourself.
Can I use an extension cable with the EcoFlow 400W Lightweight panel?
EcoFlow PH says no available extension cable works with its Lightweight series panels. Place the station within reach of the panel's built-in cable.
What if the station shows no solar input?
Check that the panel is in direct sun and unshaded, the cable is fully seated, and the panel's voltage is above the station's 11V minimum. A cloudy sky or partial shade can drop output sharply.
