Key takeaways

  • The Samsung AW40F09D0ATNTC is a 1HP compact window inverter aircon. Samsung Philippines lists 820 W rated input, 2.5 kW (9,000 kJ/h) cooling and 5 stars.
  • Samsung publishes an EER of 3.1 W/W, not a CSPF, so it can't be ranked directly against units that show their label CSPF.
  • Operating current is 3.9 A on a 230V, 60Hz supply; it uses a rotary inverter compressor and R32.
  • At full rated power, 8 hours a night for 30 days is about 197 kWh, roughly ₱2,362 at an example ₱12/kWh.

All figures are from Samsung’s own Philippine product page. (That page writes the capacity as “9000 kJ/hW”, a typo for kJ/h.)

EER is not CSPF

Most aircons in our guides are compared on CSPF, the figure the DOE label uses for its stars. CSPF covers a whole cooling season, including part-load hours when an inverter slows down. Samsung’s page instead gives an EER of 3.1 W/W: cooling output ÷ power input at a single full-load test point (2.5 kW ÷ 0.82 kW ≈ 3.1).

So you can’t line up “EER 3.1” against “CSPF 5.12” and conclude the Samsung is less efficient. The two numbers are measured in different ways, so they aren’t on the same scale. Other Philippine brands often quote EER in kJ/h per W, a different unit again, which adds to the confusion. The fix is simple: look at the yellow DOE label on the unit in the store, or ask the seller for a photo, and read its CSPF.

What it costs to run each month

monthly kWh = watts × hours per day × days ÷ 1,000

For 8 hours a night, 30 nights:

  • At full rated power: 820 × 8 × 30 ÷ 1,000 = 196.8 kWh, about ₱2,362 at an example rate of ₱12 per kWh (use your own bill’s rate).
  • At half the rated input on average (an example assumption, matching the 0.5 inverter factor older DOE labels use; real use varies): 98.4 kWh, about ₱1,181.

Plug in your hours in the aircon electricity cost calculator, and check your electric company’s rate on the electricity rates page.

How it compares with other 1HP window aircons

Model Rated input Efficiency figure Cooling capacity Stars
Samsung AW40F09D0ATNTC 820 W EER 3.1 W/W (no CSPF published) 2.5 kW 5
Kolin KA-100GQAIINV32 740 W CSPF 5.6 2.86 kW 4 (newer label)
TCL TAC-09CWI/UB2 850 W CSPF 5.12 2.6 kW 5
TCL TAC-09CWI/UJE2 733 W CSPF 4.88 2.6 kW 5

On the figures that can be compared directly, rated watts and cooling capacity, the Samsung is mid-pack. It draws less than the TCL UB2 but more than the TCL UJE2 and the Kolin KA-100GQAIINV32, and it cools the least of the four. Its seasonal efficiency can’t be ranked until you see its CSPF.

Samsung’s 1.5HP sibling, the AW40F12D0ATNTC, has the same issue: Samsung lists EER 2.7 W/W and 5 stars, with no CSPF.

Who the AW40F09D0ATNTC suits

  • Buyers who prefer the Samsung brand and its official stores on both Shopee and Lazada.
  • Small to medium bedrooms where 2.5 kW is enough. Samsung doesn’t publish a room size, so ask the seller or an installer.
  • Tight window openings, since Samsung sells it as a compact window type. Check the dimensions in the listing against your opening.

Have it installed by a licensed technician or Samsung’s authorised installer. Samsung doesn’t publish a starting current, so if you plan to run it from backup power, read our solar aircon guides first. For general tips, see inverter vs non-inverter aircons.

Bottom line

The Samsung AW40F09D0ATNTC is a 5-star, 820 W compact window inverter with 2.5 kW of cooling. Samsung quotes EER 3.1 W/W, not CSPF, so read the DOE label’s CSPF before you compare it with the TCL or Kolin units.

Frequently asked questions

How many watts does the Samsung 1HP compact window inverter use?
Samsung Philippines lists a rated power input of 820 W for the AW40F09D0ATNTC, with an operating current of 3.9 A in cooling.
What does EER 3.1 mean on the Samsung page?
EER here is cooling output divided by power input at one test point, in watts per watt: 2.5 kW of cooling for 0.82 kW of input is about 3.1. It is not the CSPF shown on the DOE label, which measures efficiency across a whole season.
Can I compare Samsung's EER 3.1 with a TCL or Kolin CSPF of 5?
No. They are different measurements. A CSPF of 5 is not 'better than' an EER of 3.1 in a direct sense. Check the yellow DOE label on the Samsung unit for its CSPF, then compare like with like.
Is the Samsung AW40F09D0ATNTC 5 stars?
Samsung's product page gives it 5 stars. Samsung doesn't show the CSPF on that page, so check the DOE label on the unit for the full figures.
