Solar Panels for the EcoFlow DELTA 3 Max: Why Its 13A Input Changes the Picks

Solar panels for the EcoFlow DELTA 3 Max: its 11-60V, 13A, 500W input rules out the 400W rigid panel. Verified setups, bifacial cautions and charge times.

Key takeaways

  • The DELTA 3 Max has one XT60i solar input: 11-60V, 13A, 500W max. That 13A is the lowest current limit in the DELTA 3 family (others are 15A).
  • The EcoFlow 400W rigid panel does NOT fit: its 13.79A short-circuit current is over 13A.
  • Cleanest verified pick: two 220W single-face panels in series (43V, 12.4A, 440W).
  • One 400W Lightweight or four 125W bifacial in parallel also pass on standard figures, but their bifacial back-side current (13.5A / 13.6A) can exceed 13A.
  • With only 500W of solar for a 2048Wh battery, a best-case refill takes about 4.1 hours or more.

For the EcoFlow DELTA 3 Max, the cleanest verified setup is two EcoFlow 220W single-face panels in series (440W). Its one XT60i solar input is rated 11-60V, 13A and 500W, and that lower 13A limit rules out the EcoFlow 400W rigid panel.

Why the DELTA 3 Max is different

Every other DELTA 3 model in this series accepts 15A per solar input. The DELTA 3 Max manual says total short-circuit current (Isc) must stay within 13A. That small difference changes which panels fit:

  • 400W rigid panel: 13.79A. Over 13A, so not OK, even as a single panel.
  • Four 60W panels in parallel: 14A (worst-case figures). Not OK here, though it passes on 15A models.

The voltage rule is the same as the rest of the family: total open-circuit voltage within 60V.

Compatibility

Panel Setup Volts / amps Usable W Status Cable
220W single-face 2 in series 43V / 12.4A 440W OK MC4-to-XT60i included
160W single-face 2 in series 42.6V / 9.1A 320W OK MC4-to-XT60i included
125W bifacial 3 in parallel 50V / 9.6A 375W OK XT60W-to-XT60i included
125W bifacial 4 in parallel 50V / 12.8A 500W OK, with bifacial caution Same
400W Lightweight 1, single 39.3V / 12.2A 400W OK, with bifacial caution None, built-in XT60
400W rigid 1, single 37.1V / 13.79A — Not OK (over 13A) —
400W Lightweight 2 in series 78.6V — Not OK (over 60V) —
220W / 160W 2 in parallel 24.8A / 18.2A — Not OK (over 13A) —

The bifacial caution

The 400W Lightweight and 125W panels are bifacial: they also collect light on the back. EcoFlow publishes a second, higher current for this (BNPI). Our check uses the standard (STC) current, and both panels pass. But the bifacial figures, 13.5A for one 400W Lightweight and 13.6A for four 125W panels, are above this station’s 13A.

If you want clear headroom on the DELTA 3 Max, pick two 220W single-face panels in series (12.4A, no bifacial gain) or three 125W bifacial panels (9.6A).

Charging estimate

The DELTA 3 Max holds 2048Wh, but solar is capped at 500W. Best case, hours ≈ 2048Wh ÷ usable watts:

  • 500W (4 × 125W): about 4.1 hours
  • 440W (2 × 220W series): about 4.7 hours
  • 400W (1 × 400W Lightweight): about 5.1 hours

Real-world output is lower, so a full refill from empty may take more than one day of sun, especially during the rainy season. It can’t take extra batteries; EcoFlow says battery expansion is for the DELTA 3 Max Plus only.

Setup steps

  1. Put both 220W panels in full sun.
  2. Join their MC4 leads in series (male to female), then fit the included MC4-to-XT60i cable.
  3. Plug into the DELTA 3 Max’s XT60i input and check incoming watts.

Portable panels can be set up by the owner following the manual. Anything wired into your house, breaker panel, roof or the grid needs a licensed electrician (PEE) and an LGU electrical permit.

Bottom line

The DELTA 3 Max’s 13A input is the one to watch. Two 220W single-face panels in series (440W) fit with no caveats, and the 400W rigid panel doesn’t fit at all.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the EcoFlow 400W rigid solar panel with the DELTA 3 Max?
No. One 400W rigid panel has a short-circuit current of 13.79A, and the DELTA 3 Max manual says total Isc must stay within 13A. Two in series would also reach 74.2V, over 60V.
What is the maximum solar input of the EcoFlow DELTA 3 Max?
500W through one XT60i port rated 11-60V and 13A, per EcoFlow's DELTA 3 Max manual.
How many 125W EcoFlow panels can I connect to a DELTA 3 Max?
Up to four in parallel (500W, 12.8A on standard figures). Because the panel is bifacial, light on its back can raise current to about 13.6A for four, slightly above 13A, so three panels (9.6A) is the option with clear headroom.
