Checked against the sources listed below. How we research.

Key takeaways

  • Most efficient verified pick that lists a small-room range: TCL TAC-09CSD/FBI 1HP split, 660 W, CSPF 6.28, suggested 9–16 sqm.
  • Best window pick with a small-room range: TCL TAC-09CWI/UJE2 1HP inverter, 733 W, CSPF 4.88, 9–16 sqm; or Kolin KAG-75WCINV 0.75HP, 725 W, CSPF 4.45, 9–13 sqm.
  • Lowest-watt inverter: iFFALCON IFAC-07CWI/UL 0.7HP window, 620 W, CSPF 5.05, though no room size is published.
  • Fixed-speed units such as the Everest ETA07WDR3-HF (565 W, 8–12 sqm) draw fewer watts but give less cooling per kWh.
  • Suggested room sizes differ between brands for similar capacities, so compare rated capacity (kW or kJ/h) too.

For a small bedroom of about 9 to 13 sqm, the most efficient verified aircon with a published small-room range is the TCL TAC-09CSD/FBI 1HP inverter split: 660 W rated input, CSPF 6.28 and a suggested 9–16 sqm. If you want a window unit, the TCL TAC-09CWI/UJE2 (733 W, CSPF 4.88, 9–16 sqm) and Kolin KAG-75WCINV (725 W, CSPF 4.45, 9–13 sqm) fit the same rooms. The lowest-watt inverter is the iFFALCON IFAC-07CWI/UL (620 W, CSPF 5.05).

How we chose

By “small bedroom” we mean roughly 9 to 13 sqm. We looked for verified models whose suggested room size covers that range, then compared CSPF and rated watts. Room-size figures come from the maker, a major retailer or the listing, and we say which. Units whose rated watts or CSPF we couldn’t confirm are left out.

Small-bedroom aircons compared

Model Type Rated input CSPF Rated capacity Suggested area (source)
TCL TAC-09CSD/FBI 1HP split, inverter 660 W 6.28 2.93 kW 9–16 sqm (TCL spec sheet)
iFFALCON IFAC-07CWI/UL 0.7HP window, inverter 620 W 5.05 2.05 kW Not published
TCL TAC-10CSD/KEI2 1HP split, inverter 780 W 4.90 2.78 kW 9–16 sqm (SM Appliance)
TCL TAC-09CWI/UJE2 1HP window, inverter 733 W 4.88 2.60 kW 9–16 sqm (SM Appliance)
TCL TAC-07CSA/KEI 0.7HP split, inverter 640 W 4.76 1.94 kW 10–12 sqm (listing graphic)
Kolin KAG-75WCINV 0.75HP window, inverter 725 W 4.45 2.47 kW 9–13 sqm (listing spec)
Kelvinator WKELA006EA-TF 0.6HP window, non-inverter 468 W 3.32 1.47 kW Up to 10 sqm (listing)
Everest ETA07WDR3-HF 0.7HP window, non-inverter 565 W 3.25 1.82 kW 8–12 sqm (Anson’s)

CSPF, watts and capacity come from DOE labels or the maker (for the TCL FBI 1HP, TCL’s own spec sheet).

Our picks

Most efficient: TCL TAC-09CSD/FBI (1HP split). It has the highest CSPF here, and only 660 W at its rated point despite 2.93 kW of capacity. TCL lists a power range of 220 to 1,100 W, so once the room is cool it can throttle down well below its rating. If you can install a split, this is the strongest choice for all-night use.

Best window unit for a small room: TCL TAC-09CWI/UJE2 or Kolin KAG-75WCINV. Both list ranges that cover a small bedroom. The TCL has slightly more capacity and a higher CSPF. The Kolin is the smaller 0.75HP unit; its listing gives a power range of 220 to 900 W.

Lowest-watt inverter: iFFALCON IFAC-07CWI/UL. At 620 W and CSPF 5.05 it is more efficient than both window picks above. iFFALCON doesn’t publish a room size, but its 2.05 kW rated capacity is more than the Everest’s 1.82 kW, which Anson’s rates for 8–12 sqm. See our iFFALCON IFAC-07CWI/UL guide.

Small split option: TCL TAC-07CSA/KEI. A split keeps the compressor in the outdoor unit. It is rated 640 W with CSPF 4.76. Its 10–12 sqm range is from a listing graphic, not an official spec.

Budget, short use only: Kelvinator or Everest. These fixed-speed units draw the fewest watts, but they give less cooling per kWh. They suit a room you cool for a couple of hours before sleep, not all night.

Room-size claims vary between brands

Suggested areas aren’t standardised. Astron suggests 12–17 sqm for its 0.6HP TCL-60MA, rated 5,760 kJ/h (about 1.6 kW). Anson’s lists only 8–12 sqm for the Everest 0.7HP at 1.82 kW. So compare rated capacity as well: in the same room, a unit with more kW will reach your set temperature faster. Sun exposure, a tin roof, the number of sleepers and gaps around the door all change what you need.

Running cost for a night

Example: 8 hours a night, 30 days, example rate ₱12 per kWh (check yours on our electricity rates page). At full rated power, the TCL FBI would use 158.4 kWh (about ₱1,901) and the iFFALCON 148.8 kWh (about ₱1,786). Inverters often run below rated power once the room is cool; using the DOE’s older-label example factor of 0.5, that becomes about ₱950 and ₱893. Real use varies. Work out your own in the aircon electricity cost calculator.

Small-room tips that cut the bill

The DOE recommends setting the aircon at 24°C, installing it in the coolest part of the room (on a shady side if possible), cleaning the filter regularly, and switching it off or unplugging it when not in use. Close curtains on the sunny side during the day so the room starts the night cooler.

Where to buy

Have a licensed technician or authorised installer fit the unit, especially a split.

Bottom line

For a small bedroom you cool every night, choose a high-CSPF inverter sized to the room: the TCL TAC-09CSD/FBI split, or the iFFALCON IFAC-07CWI/UL or TCL TAC-09CWI/UJE2 window units. Low watts alone don’t make the cheapest aircon. More cooling per kWh does.

Frequently asked questions

What HP aircon do I need for a 10 sqm bedroom?
Several verified units list a range that includes 10 sqm: Everest ETA07WDR3-HF 0.7HP (8–12 sqm), Kolin KAG-75WCINV 0.75HP (9–13 sqm), and 1HP models such as the TCL TAC-09CWI/UJE2, TCL TAC-09CSD/FBI and TCL TAC-10CSD/KEI2 (9–16 sqm). A room with afternoon sun or a hot roof may need the upper end.
Is a 1HP inverter wasteful in a small room?
Not necessarily. An inverter slows its compressor once the room is cool, and the TCL TAC-09CSD/FBI 1HP split has a published power range of 220 to 1,100 W. A 1HP with a high CSPF can use less electricity than a smaller fixed-speed unit that switches fully on and off.
What is the lowest-wattage aircon for a bedroom?
Among verified models, the Kelvinator WKELA006EA-TF 0.6HP window unit is rated at 468 W, but it is fixed-speed with CSPF 3.32 and a rated capacity of 1.47 kW. Its listing says it suits up to 10 sqm; that figure is from the listing, not a maker spec.
What temperature should I set for sleeping?
The DOE's energy tips suggest setting the aircon at 24°C. A lower setting makes the compressor run harder and longer.
