What Size Battery Runs a 1HP Aircon Overnight?
What size battery runs a 1HP aircon overnight? About 2,300–5,200 Wh of rated capacity for a verified 1HP inverter unit over 6–10 hours. Wh maths and matching batteries.
Checked against the sources listed below. How we research.
Key takeaways
- Battery Wh needed ≈ aircon rated watts × hours × 0.5 ÷ 0.85. The 0.5 (average power for inverter units) and the hours are example assumptions. The 0.85 is our runtime calculator's AC efficiency figure.
- For verified 1HP inverter units (650–880W), that's about 2,300 Wh for 6 hours up to about 5,200 Wh for 10 hours.
- An 8-hour night with a 740W Kolin unit needs about 3,480 Wh. An EcoFlow DELTA Pro 3 (4,096 Wh) covers it; a DELTA 3 Max (2,048 Wh) doesn't.
- Worst case, with the unit at full rated power all night, you'd need double: about 7,000 Wh for 8 hours.
- For a wired home system, the same Wh figure sizes the LiFePO4 battery bank behind a hybrid inverter.

To run a 1HP inverter aircon overnight, you need roughly 2,300 to 5,200 Wh of rated battery capacity, depending on the unit’s watts and how many hours you run it. For a typical 8-hour night with a 740W Kolin KA-100GQAIINV32, that’s about 3,480 Wh, which an EcoFlow DELTA Pro 3 (4,096 Wh) covers.
The formula
Battery Wh needed ≈ rated watts × hours × 0.5 ÷ 0.85
- Rated watts: from the aircon’s DOE energy label.
- Hours: how long you’ll run it (example values below).
- 0.5: example assumption that an inverter unit averages half its rated power once the room is cool, the same factor the DOE’s older label formula uses for inverter units. A hot night or a big room pushes this higher.
- 0.85: the share of stored energy that reaches AC devices in our EcoFlow runtime calculator.
Sizing table (example hours)
| 1HP inverter aircon (rated) | 6 hours | 8 hours | 10 hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| TCL TAC-11CSD/P7 (650W) | 2,294 Wh | 3,059 Wh | 3,824 Wh |
| Kolin KA-100GQAIINV32 (740W) | 2,612 Wh | 3,482 Wh | 4,353 Wh |
| iFFALCON IFAC-09CWI/UL (880W) | 3,106 Wh | 4,141 Wh | 5,176 Wh |
Worst case: if the unit ran at full rated power all night, double these. A 740W unit for 8 hours would need 740 × 8 ÷ 0.85 ≈ 6,965 Wh.
Matching batteries
Capacities and AC outputs from EcoFlow Philippines. All have enough AC output for a 1HP inverter unit.
| Battery | Rated Wh | Covers (example table) |
|---|---|---|
| DELTA 3 Max (Shopee · Lazada) | 2,048 Wh | None of the full nights; about 4.7 h with the Kolin |
| DELTA Pro (Shopee) | 3,600 Wh | 6 h for all three; 8 h for the 650W and 740W units |
| DELTA Pro 3 (Shopee · Lazada) | 4,096 Wh | 8 h for the 650W and 740W units; 10 h for the 650W unit |
| DELTA Pro 3 + 1 Smart Extra Battery | 8,192 Wh | Every case, including the 740W worst case for 8 h |
| DELTA Pro Ultra (Shopee · Lazada) (1 battery) | 6,144 Wh | Every example case |
DELTA Pro 3 extra batteries are 4,096 Wh each (up to two). EcoFlow PH lists the DELTA Pro Ultra’s output as 230V 50Hz, so check that your aircon accepts that.
Recharging the next day
Whatever the night used has to come back from the sun. As an example, refilling 3,482 Wh with 4 peak sun hours and about 80% of panel watts reaching the battery takes about 1,090W of panels. On the DELTA Pro 3, a verified setup is 6 × EcoFlow 220W panels in series on the High-PV input (1,320W usable). EcoFlow’s manual specifies a “Solar to XT60 Charging cable” for that port. Portable panels can be set up by the owner following the manual. See why you need batteries at night.
Wired home systems
For a battery bank behind a hybrid inverter, convert Ah to Wh (Ah × nominal volts) and use the same table. The PowMr 6.5kW hybrid inverter (48V) takes a 48V lithium or lead-acid bank. Read our LiFePO4 guide first. The small PowMr 1000W kit (12.8V 100Ah = 1,280 Wh) is too small for a night of aircon, and its inverter’s 60Hz output isn’t verified. Any system wired to the house needs a licensed PEE and an LGU electrical permit.

Bottom line
Multiply the aircon’s rated watts by your hours, halve it (our inverter-unit example), and divide by 0.85. For a verified 1HP inverter unit over an 8-hour night, plan on 3,000–4,200 Wh. That’s DELTA Pro 3 territory, or bigger if your nights run hot.
