"Inverter Class", "Inverter Grade" and Full DC Inverter: What Aircon Labels Really Mean
"Inverter class" and "inverter grade" aircons are not always inverters. What Astron, Fujidenzo and Xtreme listings really mean, and how to check using the DOE label.
Checked against the sources listed below. How we research.
Key takeaways
- "Inverter class" and "inverter grade" are marketing words, not DOE label categories. The label only separates fixed-speed from variable-speed (inverter) units.
- Astron says its "Inverter Class" means the unit uses R-32 refrigerant, "same used in inverter aircons". The 0.6HP models are fixed-speed with EER 9.9.
- Fujidenzo's "Inverter Grade" WAR units have retailer-listed CSPFs of 3.32 to 3.35 and 2 stars, in line with fixed-speed units. Fujidenzo never claims an inverter compressor.
- Xtreme's "Inverter Grade" window units use a manual thermostat, and the brand's own Lazada description of one calls it "Non-inverter".
- To check, look at the label CSPF, a published power range, and on older labels the monthly-kWh factor (0.5 for inverter, 0.8 for fixed-speed).
On this page
“Inverter class” and “inverter grade” do not mean the aircon has an inverter compressor. Astron says its “Inverter Class” refers to R-32 refrigerant, and the Fujidenzo and Xtreme “inverter grade” units we checked have fixed-speed specs. “Full DC inverter” units we verified are genuine inverters, but the “Full DC” wording itself isn’t certified on the DOE label. The label’s CSPF and product type are what tell you the truth.
Why this matters for your bill
An inverter slows its compressor when the room is cool. A fixed-speed unit switches fully on and off. For all-night use, the difference shows up in CSPF: verified fixed-speed window units sit around 3.2 to 3.35, while verified inverter window units score 4.36 to 5.60.
It also matters for your wallet at the store. CLASP’s retail survey found inverter aircons cost on average 40–45% more than fixed-speed units (for units of 9,000 kJ/h and up). Paying an “inverter” price for a fixed-speed unit is the trap.
What we found, brand by brand
| Listing wording | Models | What the evidence shows |
|---|---|---|
| “Inverter Class” | Astron TCL-60MA, Astron TCL-RE60 (0.6HP window) | Astron’s page: “Inverter-Class Efficiency: Uses R-32 refrigerant - same used in inverter aircons.” Manual/fixed-speed, 580 W, EER 9.9 kJ/h per W, no CSPF published. |
| “Inverter Class” | Astron 1HP and 1.5HP (TCL100RE, TCL-MA100, TCL-RE150) | Likely the same refrigerant-based term; no specs published to check. |
| “Inverter Grade” | Fujidenzo WAR-632IGT2, WAR-750IGT, WAR-100IGT | Fujidenzo: “Inverter Grade- R32 Refrigerant” and “Energy Efficient Compressor”; never says inverter compressor. Retailer CSPF 3.32–3.35, 2 stars: fixed-speed territory. |
| “Inverter Grade” | Fujidenzo PAC-100AIG2 / PAC-150AIG2 portables | No capacity, watts or CSPF published. |
| “Inverter Grade” | Xtreme XACWT10X, XACWT15X, XACWT15RX | Manual thermostat; the brand’s own Lazada description of the 15RX says “Non-inverter”. Listed watts and EER don’t reconcile (e.g. 9,000 Btu/h at 1,200 W ≈ 7.9 kJ/h per W, not the stated 10.80). |
| “Inverter Grade” / “Compact Inverter” | Prestiz CW-09BMN8, Coldfront CF-WAC10, Dowell ACW-3i-2310R | No model code or specs could be verified anywhere. |
These fixed-speed units aren’t bad products; they’re simply not inverters. For short daily use, a fixed-speed unit can be a reasonable budget buy. Just compare it with other fixed-speed units, not with inverters.
“Full DC inverter”: real, but check the details
The full DC inverter window units we verified on DOE labels, such as the Kolin KA-100GQAIINV32 (CSPF 5.60) and the TCL TAC-09CWI/UB2 (CSPF 5.12), show inverter-level efficiency. They also publish wide power ranges: 148–888 W for the Kolin and 200–1,450 W for the TCL. A wide range is a sign of a variable-speed compressor.
Where the wording needs care:
- iFFALCON UL series: a Shopee title says “Full DC Inverter”, while the TCL Lazada listing calls it “Eco Inverter”. The labels confirm the CSPF (e.g. 5.05 for the IFAC-07CWI/UL) but not the compressor wording.
- Midea Chione splits: a listing says “Full DC Inverter”; Midea’s own pages say “High Wall Inverter”.
- Carrier WCART006EEV: “Full DC” appears on listings but wasn’t confirmed by a Carrier source.
- Fujidenzo IWAR-157T: the 1.5HP shows the same CSPF and cabinet size as the 1HP IWAR-107T, which suggests a copied spec.
How to check any aircon yourself
-
Read the CSPF on the label. A CSPF in the 3.2–3.4 range, as in our fixed-speed examples, points to a fixed-speed unit. A later DOE draft proposed a minimum of 3.70 for inverter units.
-
Look for the product type. The DOE’s label record for the Everest ETA07WDR3-HF, for example, lists it as “AC Fixed”.
-
Look for a power range. Inverter spec sheets often list a range such as “148–888 W”. A single fixed figure with a manual thermostat suggests fixed-speed.
-
On older labels, check the monthly-kWh factor. Divide the label’s monthly kWh by (power input in kW × 9 × 30). About 0.5 means the DOE treated it as an inverter; about 0.8 means fixed-speed.
- iFFALCON IFAC-07CWI/UL: 83.7 ÷ (0.62 × 270) = 0.5, inverter.
- iFFALCON IFAC-06CW/UL: 110.16 ÷ (0.51 × 270) = 0.8, fixed-speed.
- Everest ETA07WDR3-HF: 122.04 ÷ (0.565 × 270) = 0.8, fixed-speed.
Newer labels calculate monthly kWh differently, so this check works only on older labels. Our energy label guide explains the difference.
-
Ignore percentages. Claims such as “up to 40% energy savings” (Astron) or “75% energy saving” (TCL listings) don’t appear on any DOE label.
Real inverter alternatives
If you were looking at an “inverter class” or “inverter grade” unit, these verified inverters are similar in size:
- 0.7HP window: iFFALCON IFAC-07CWI/UL on Lazada · Shopee. CSPF 5.05, 620 W.
- 0.75HP window: Kolin KAG-75WCINV on Lazada. CSPF 4.45, 725 W.
- 1HP window: Kolin KA-100GQAIINV32 on Lazada. CSPF 5.60, 740 W.
- 1HP window: TCL TAC-09CWI/UB2 on Lazada · Shopee. CSPF 5.12, 850 W.
Full rankings by size: 0.6HP, 0.7–0.8HP, 1HP window. Whichever you buy, have a licensed technician or authorised installer fit it.
Bottom line
Treat “inverter class” and “inverter grade” as marketing, not specs. If you want inverter savings, look for a label CSPF well above 4 and a published power range. For more on the difference, see inverter vs non-inverter aircons.
