Key takeaways

  • PowMr's catalogue rates the 4.5kW model at 4,500 W (24V battery) and the 6.5kW at 6,500 W (48V battery), both with surge of 2 × rated power for 5 seconds. Either can carry a 1HP or 1.5HP inverter aircon with room to spare.
  • Budget by the aircon's published maximum input, not its label watts: 1,100 W for the TCL TAC-09CSD/FBI 1HP, 1,450 W for the TCL UB2 1HP and 1,900 W for the TCL FBI 1.5HP.
  • Both models list a 55-450V MPPT range and 6,000 W / 6,500 W max PV. The listings claim 500V; design strings to 450V with a 10% margin (405V) until you see the nameplate.
  • Idle draw is under 35 W (4.5kW) and under 50 W (6.5kW), up to 0.84 kWh and 1.2 kWh a day. That's significant next to an overnight aircon.
  • We couldn't verify grid export on either model. Plan on a backup/Zero Export setup, designed by a PEE, with an LGU electrical permit and your electric company informed.

  9. Bottom line

Yes, a PowMr hybrid inverter can run an inverter aircon. The PowMr 4.5kW hybrid inverter (24V battery) is rated at 4,500 W and the PowMr 6.5kW hybrid inverter (48V battery) at 6,500 W, both with surge of 2 × rated power for 5 seconds. That’s far more than a 1HP or 1.5HP inverter aircon needs. What decides whether your aircon runs all night is the battery and the solar array behind the inverter. The installation must be done by a licensed electrician under a professional electrical engineer (PEE).

This guide is about aircon loads specifically. For a general introduction to these two inverters, read our PowMr hybrid inverter guide.

The PowMr specs that matter for an aircon

All figures are from PowMr’s catalogue for the POW-HVM4.5K-24V and POW-HVM6.5K-48V.

Step 1: Budget watts by the aircon’s maximum input

An inverter aircon’s label shows its rated input. While it’s pulling a hot room down to temperature, it can draw up to the top of its published range. That maximum is the figure to budget against the inverter’s 4,500 W or 6,500 W.

Aircon (verified) HP Label rated input Published maximum Buy

Example watt budget on the 4.5kW (estimate): a TCL TAC-12CSD/FBI 1.5HP at its 1,900 W maximum leaves 2,600 W for everything else on the backed-up circuits: ref, fans, lights, TV, router, water pump. That’s a comfortable margin. Add a second large load, such as a rice cooker or electric kettle, and you’ll be near the limit at dinner time. The 6.5kW gives 2,000 W more headroom.

Surge. None of these aircons has a published starting current. Inverter units’ published ranges start low (148 W for the Kolin 1HP, 202 W for the Kolin 1.5HP). Both Kolin listings also advertise “soft start-up”. The PowMr’s 5-second surge allowance of 9,000 W (4.5kW) or 13,000 W (6.5kW) is mainly for other motors that start at the same moment, like a water pump or an old fixed-speed ref. Avoid fixed-speed aircons and “inverter grade” units on a battery system. Fujidenzo’s “Inverter Grade” WAR window units show fixed-speed CSPFs of 3.32 to 3.35 and 2 stars.

Step 2: 24V or 48V for aircon loads?

Battery current is roughly watts ÷ battery voltage ÷ inverter efficiency. With typical LiFePO4 nominal voltages (25.6V for 24V banks, 51.2V for 48V banks) and an example 90% efficiency:

Load 24V bank (4.5kW) 48V bank (6.5kW)
1HP aircon at 740 W rated ≈ 32 A ≈ 16 A
1.5HP at its 1,900 W maximum ≈ 82 A ≈ 41 A
Inverter at full 4,500 W ≈ 195 A ≈ 98 A
Inverter at full 6,500 W not applicable ≈ 141 A

Higher current needs thicker cables and a battery whose BMS can deliver it continuously. For a single aircon plus household loads, a 24V system on the 4.5kW is workable. If you expect to add a second aircon or run big loads together, the 48V 6.5kW keeps currents manageable. Either way, your electrician sizes the cables, fuse and breaker between battery and inverter.

Step 3: Size the battery for night cooling

Using the method in our 1HP sizing guide (example assumptions: aircon averages half its rated power, 90% inverter efficiency, 80% usable battery):

Battery Wh = rated W × hours × 0.5 ÷ 0.9 ÷ 0.8

Aircon, 8 hours overnight Battery (example) At 24V At 48V
Kolin KA-100GQAIINV32, 740 W ≈ 4.1 kWh ≈ 161 Ah ≈ 80 Ah
TCL TAC-14CSD/P7 1.5HP, 1,000 W ≈ 5.6 kWh ≈ 217 Ah ≈ 109 Ah
TCL TAC-12CWI/UJE2 1.5HP, 1,170 W ≈ 6.5 kWh ≈ 254 Ah ≈ 127 Ah

Add the inverter’s idle draw. If the inverter stays on all night, add up to 35 W × 8 h = 280 Wh (4.5kW) or 50 W × 8 h = 400 Wh (6.5kW). Over a full day that’s up to 0.84 kWh or 1.2 kWh, which your panels must also replace.

If the room runs hot and the aircon stays near full power, the battery needs to be up to twice as big. If a cloudy day leaves the battery low, the PowMr can charge it from the grid at up to 80 A. Check the manual that comes with your unit for its source-priority settings, which decide when it uses solar, battery or grid.

Read LiFePO4 batteries for DIY solar before choosing a bank.

Step 4: Size the array and the strings

How many watts? Daytime aircon use plus refilling the night battery. In our 1HP example (8 hours by day, 8 at night, 650 W unit) that’s about 1.6 kW of panels, assuming 4.5 peak sun hours and 80% real output. For a 1.5HP unit at 1,000 W, scale up to about 2.5 kW. Both are well under the PowMr’s 6,000 W and 6,500 W PV limits, so you can add panels for the rest of the house.

How many in series? Two limits apply:

  • Minimum: the string’s operating voltage (Vmp) must reach the 55V MPPT minimum.
  • Maximum: the string’s open-circuit voltage (Voc) must stay under 450V. We design to 405V (a 10% margin), because the panels’ temperature coefficients aren’t published.

Verified string limits from our compatibility checks:

Panel (verified Voc) Min in series Max in series Max strings (4.5kW / 6.5kW) Example aircon array
PowMr 150W flexible (Voc 21.6V, Vmp 18V) 4 18 (388.8V) 2 / 2 11 in series = 1,650 W, 237.6V Voc
PowMr 100W flexible (Voc 21.6V, Vmp 18V) 4 18 (388.8V) 3 / 3 16 in series = 1,600 W, 345.6V Voc
BLUETTI PV200 (Voc 26.1V, Vmp 20.5V) 3 15 (391.5V) 2 / 2 8 in series = 1,600 W, 208.8V Voc

Two cautions on those panels. The PV200 is a folding portable panel, and BLUETTI says not to expose it to rain, so it isn’t suited to a permanent roof array. The PowMr 150W listing’s variant figures (20.4V, 9.5A) conflict with PowMr’s own specs (Voc 21.6V, Isc 9.16A), so use PowMr’s. PowMr doesn’t publish a maximum PV input current, so confirm each panel’s Isc against the inverter nameplate before wiring strings in parallel. For a large rooftop array, your installer will usually specify rigid panels with full datasheets and run the same checks.

The 450V vs 500V conflict

Both Lazada listings say “PV Panel Input 500vdc” and “150-500voc”. PowMr’s catalogue says the maximum PV open-circuit voltage is 450V. A string that’s fine at 480V on the listing’s figure could damage the inverter if the catalogue is right. Until you can read the figure on your unit’s nameplate or in its manual, design to 450V, and in practice to 405V with margin.

Can it run the aircon from solar with no battery?

The listings say “Inverter running without battery” and give a PV start voltage of 150Voc without a battery (60Voc with one). This isn’t in the catalogue table, so check your unit’s manual. Even if it works, a passing cloud would cut the panels’ output, and the aircon would slow or stop with it. For steady cooling, plan on a battery.

Step 5: Installation, permits, Zero Export and net metering

A hybrid inverter is wired into your house, so this isn’t a DIY job.

  1. Design and supervision. RA 7920 requires electrical plans to be prepared, signed and sealed by a professional electrical engineer (PEE), and the work done under a PEE, registered electrical engineer or registered master electrician.
  2. Permit. A construction (electrical) permit from your LGU comes first, and a Certificate of Final Electrical Inspection (CFEI) after.
  3. Which circuits get backup. Your electrician decides which circuits move to the inverter’s output, such as bedroom aircon, ref and lights. A split aircon on its own breaker is usually one of them. The rest can stay on the grid.
  4. Tell your electric company. Meralco says to inform it even about systems for your own use. Without net metering, solar power that reaches the grid may be recorded as imported energy. If you won’t export, Meralco offers Zero Export.
  5. Net metering. We couldn’t verify that either PowMr model exports. The catalogue has no feed-in section for them, and the listings say “On-grid/Off-grid” without describing export. If you want export credits, ask your installer for an inverter your electric company accepts for net metering. Start with our net metering guide, or find a licensed installer.

A complete example: 1.5HP bedroom aircon on a PowMr 6.5kW

Estimates with labelled assumptions; your PEE finalises the design.

  • Aircon: TCL TAC-14CSD/P7 1.5HP, 1,000 W rated, CSPF 6.74. It has the lowest rated input among the verified 1.5HP units.
  • Inverter: PowMr 6.5kW (48V), with room for ref, fans, lights and a pump.
  • Battery: 8 hours overnight ≈ 5.6 kWh, plus 0.4 kWh idle draw, so about 6 kWh at 48V (about 117 Ah).
  • Panels: night refill (≈ 4.4 kWh out of the battery, plus idle) plus 6 daytime hours at half power (≈ 3.3 kWh through the inverter). That’s about 8.2 kWh ÷ (4.5 × 0.8) ≈ 2.3 kW.
  • Strings: 16 × PowMr 150W flexible = 2,400 W. Two strings of 8 (172.8V Voc, 144V Vmp each), or one string of 16 (345.6V Voc). Both are inside 55–405V. Confirm the current limit before choosing two strings.
  • Grid: Zero Export arrangement with your electric company; grid charging for rainy weeks.

Bottom line

On output alone, either PowMr hybrid inverter handles a 1HP or 1.5HP inverter aircon easily. The 4.5kW suits one aircon plus normal loads. The 6.5kW suits bigger homes and keeps battery current lower. Spend your planning time on the battery (4 to 6 kWh for one aircon overnight in our examples) and on strings designed to 405V, not the listing’s 500V. Treat it as a backup/Zero Export system, and have a licensed PEE design and sign it off.

Frequently asked questions

Can a PowMr 4.5kW inverter run a 1.5HP aircon?
Yes, on paper, with headroom. The 4.5kW model is rated 4,500 W continuous. Verified 1.5HP inverter aircons are rated at 1,000 W to 1,300 W on their labels, and the highest published maximum input we found is 1,900 W (TCL TAC-12CSD/FBI). Whether it can run all night depends on your battery, not the inverter.
Should I choose the 24V PowMr 4.5kW or the 48V 6.5kW for aircons?
For one aircon plus normal household loads, the 4.5kW is enough. The 48V 6.5kW halves the battery current for the same power (about 33 A instead of 65 A at 1,500 W in our example), allows bigger loads, and takes up to 6,500 W of solar. It has a higher idle draw (under 50 W vs under 35 W).
Can I net meter with a PowMr hybrid inverter?
We couldn't verify that these models export power. PowMr's catalogue has no grid feed-in section for either. Treat them as backup inverters that charge from solar and the grid. Meralco offers Zero Export for systems that won't export, and asks to be informed about all solar installations. Net metering needs equipment and an application your electric company accepts.
How many panels in series on a PowMr 6.5kW?
With PowMr's 150W flexible panels (Voc 21.6V), at least 4 in series to reach the 55V MPPT minimum and at most 18 to stay under 405V (90% of the 450V maximum). Two strings of 18 make 5,400 W. Have your electrician confirm against the nameplates.
